BEAR BASIN HIDEAWAY

BEAR BASIN HIDEAWAY

McCall Design partner Luke Vannoy completed his personal residence in January of 2009. The intent of the design was to utilize modern materials and methods while remaining true to the mountain cabin vernacular of the area. The property is located between Payette Lake and Bear Basin in a heavily wooded area. Achieving as much natural light as possible with minimal impact on the forested site was the primary goal. A high bank of clerestory windows provides light through a light well in the loft space down to the main level. The porch roof structure is exposed to create a trellis shading device that filters direct sunlight into the main level. The home is heated with a hydronic radiant concrete slab which has been acid stained and left exposed. The exterior and interior chimney chase are clad in weathered steel.
